I found some sketches in book I picked up in New York last time I was there (like 4 years ago). Some of the people I recognize, others are friends of friends or strangers off the internet (Facebook, actually, has provided me with some good material over the years. It may sound creepy, but it's true).

This week: Savage Love.

I had the honor of sketching for Dan Savage's column "Savage Love" this week. I feel okay about the image, but really un-ok with its inspiration. I'm not going to post the letter-response here, because .... *shudder* no. I'll give you two key words, however, so you can decide if you want to track it down yourself: "clitoral hood" and "syringe."

The Trouble With Spoons.

I was fortunate enough to have been asked to illustrate writer Mary Lochner's personal account of suicide and compulsion for the Anchorage Press, our city's alt. weekly. The Trouble With Spoons ran on Thursday July 31, 2014. It was a long and taxing process, but the outcome was immensely satisfying, albeit so emotional to see on the page. I commend Mary for her deep bravery in telling this story, which is a difficult one, and I strongly encourage all my friends and family to read it. Here is one image from page two.

(From the story) "And if you’re reading this, and you’ve lost someone to death, then I am about to tell you what that person would say to you now, if he or she could. And if I am the one who’s gone—and I hope that day comes 90 years in the future, because 123 years seems like a pretty good run—then I am going to tell you the same thing. It is this: I love you. I want you to be happy. And everything’s going to be okay."
